“RESISTANCE TRAINING Part 1” Muscles of you Lower Body/Upper Body 2013/

Hello my dear readers moving along with “The Components in an Exercise Routine” here is the next one and the most known  “Resistance Training”..  why resistance? well you will have to work out your Lower and Upper body against gravity or acording at the postition of your machine, rope or cable your body will pull or push  doing concetric and eccentrict contractions to work these muscles.

“Concentric contractions” are those which cause the muscle to shorten as it contracts  doing a curl of biceps bringing your hands to your shoulders and biceps is an easy example,”Eccentric contractions” are the opposite of concentric and occur when the muscle lengthens as it contracts when you fully ententend your arms away from your biceps, Capish??..

This is where your KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE as a Trainer or Couch comes in,if you DON’T TEACH correct to FULLY extend or SHORT the muscle to PEOPLE,this stimulation of muscle fibers and other muscles will NOT HAPPEN correctly and if on top of that you have BAD POSTURE and WRONG breathing well your Workout will SUCK and it will take more TIME to see some MUSCLES in your body something very FRUSTATING for many of you that go to the  GYM .

A perfect and simple example so you may UNDERSTAND and picture what I’m saying is that “Guy or Trainer” who is doing standing biceps curl with the bar with TONS of weight NOT starting or ending corectly his CONTRACTIONS hunch forward moving all his body like a BELL and making really LOUD noises.

The truth is that this guy is not working out properly, he may injured his lower back cause he’s bouncing to much(maybe a twitch in his neck) and really just hurting your body instead or making any benefit. For your LUCK and BENEFIT to your WORKOUT now you are READING what I learned in all this years and NO Health Magazines or some You tube Channels  like  BE FIT (it should say BE STUPID AND DANGEROUS) that I just watched tells you  ....“TECHNIQUE”, technique to avoid INJURIES.

So it doesn’t matter what exercise or muscle you are doing, if you don’t start and end CLEAN and  CLEAR your REPS you may get hurt  and pull  a muscle and not making any progress in your Physique.

So here are “5 Lower Body Exercises” that you will learn with some cues of posture, breating and technique to help you get a great shape in YOUR LEGS and BUTT.

Please warm up 15 -20 minutes before you start any Resistance Workout Routine and at the end STRETCH the muscles you workout at least 15 minutes to avoid soreness and help muscle growth.

LOWER BODY.

1.- Leg Press.

Position your Legs as wide as you shoulders, knees facing out and make sure both feet are way UP so when you start the exercise your knees ARE NOT passing out the point of your tennis shoes(or you will hurt the knee). If your TAIL BONE is out of the sitting cushion and your spine is like a snail PUT LESS WEIGHT please see my POSTURE: My back is flat and not arching, shoulers back, chest out head resting, legs flexed THIS IS THE STARTING POSITION “inhale”,as you “exhale” squeeze your abs, press and      extend the legs with out LOCKING them and always keeping a little semiflexion to keep the tesnsion in calves, hamstings and gluts and avoid stress in the knee.4 set of 15 -20 resp.See image #1.

2.- Hamstring Curl.

Position your body face down and adjust the machine so your knees are out of the cushion as you see in the image your “Starting Position” will be with legs extended, back long and AVOID LIFTING YOUR HEAD AND CHIN UP cause you can pinch your neck and traps, keep head NEUTRAL and down or to the SIDES,hold the machine with your arms to STABILAZE your torso “inhale”, as you “exhale” flex your legs and squeeze your abs, hamstrings and bring you heels towards your butt DO NOT LIFT YOUR HEAD UP!!, “inahle” extend you legs back SLOW and again come back to starting position.4 sets 15-20 resp. See image #2.

3.-Leg Extension.

Position your body in the machine and make sure your hamstring is all suported in the sit same as you sit in a chair legs flex, back tall amd straigth, chest open, sholders back, hands grabbing the machine to STABILIZE your body, hold your STOMACH (if you don’t you will make your stomach pop out and look fat) “inhale”, as you “exhale” squeeze your abs, extend both legs toes ponting and squeeze your quads, keep your POSTURE correct all the time(look at the image), “inhale” flex slow your legs and come back to strating posItion. 4 sets 15-20 resp. See image #3.

4.-Reverse lunge with a box and kettebell.

This is a killer exercise. This is an amazing exercise to get your butt BIG and STRONG please POSTURE is very important to make it work.Get a box like I have with a decent HIGH like you see me using also find a cage of the squat rack to HOLD and HELP your body to keep a perfect TECHNIQUE as you step back from the box, yes YOU NEED TO HOLD something this is very very HARD.So start with both feet on top of the box, hold with LEFT ARM the cage (INHALE),as you do the reverse lunge LEFT LEG will be the one flexing and staying with all the foot in the box and making sure your knee is align with your heel(look at the image) now RIGTH LEG will move back as far as you can and landing with your TOES and HEEL UP in the same side your RIGTH ARM will be holding the kettebell as a death weigth and trying to go DOWN as posible feeling the stretch in QUADS and HIP FLEXOR “exhale”,now THE DIFFICUL PART is when you use just the STRENGTH of your LEFT LEG to step back on top of the box and you will feel your LEFT BUTT ON FIRE,je,je.je.Then switch.3 sets 12-15 reps each leg.See image #4.

5.- Butt Blaster.Another exercise to get a HUGE and STRONG BUTT. Position your body elbows flex and flat back(adjust the machine)flex RIGTH LEG and LEFT LEG on the upper floor of the machine”inhale”.as you “exhale” squeez your abs and BUTT and extend the LEFT LEG as high as you can keep HIPS ALIGN,bring leg down slow to staring posotion “inhale”. 4 sets 15-20 resp. See image #5.

MAY ARTICLE 2013

The Pilates “Reformer”2013 the machine to strength your Core, increased Flexibility and correct posture  alignment in your all body Part 3

Hello my dear readers hope you have a chance to read in the past articles the 2 of the most important components in your Training Program your "Power House" and muscles involved and "Flexibility" and motivate you to try Pilates and all the benefits health wise that will bring you to improve your every day life.As I mentioned before "Joseph Pilates" believed that "mental health" and "physical health” where related.

This believe is very truth, but so NOT practiced in the gyms completely because either you go by yourself to the gym and don't have idea where to start or if you decide to buy some Personal Training  Sessions and the gym gives you a 20 year old kid as your Trainer still not quit prepare in this Pilates Principals  or experienced in "Exercise" at all and you don't ask or request WHO will be Training you, so your first experience at the gym can be a disaster, pay attention and think that getting a Trainer is like finding your Primary Physician a person that you can trust and well experienced and educated in his Profession.

Also as we evolved in "Exercise" we had "evolved" in "BAD HABITS" people, clients and trainers who can't MENTALLY focus in "working out" or "training 100% a client",like the person reading a newspaper or magazine while working out throwing the newspaper all around him or the one just talking  and talking as if the gym was a Bar .

Now that "Mind and Body" situation that Joseph Pilates mentioned is just "Destroyed"  with I-Phones, I-Pads or this Gigantic Earphones to listen to music, you texting when you are working out or reverse which I  I see "all the time" Trainers  texting and talking not paying attention what so ever in YOU and your form and execution in your sets.

In my opinion "texting, calling and not be able to concentrate" when you are going to WORKOUT or EXERCISE at the most 1 hour of your 24 hour day is totally "inappropriate and ridiculous" not focussing 60 minutes for your health, seems impossible or painful.

I had seen so many people with this "distracting machines" fall in treadmills cause the I-phone felt while they are running looking for pictures or texting, people being rude and not sharing the equipment when you nicely ask if you can take turns sharing the machine IGNORING YOU  because this person is pretending "not listening to you" wearing this gigantic earphones and tripping with the  45 lbs plate on the floor he's not seeing and not able to listen a warning from us, more Trainers using  I-Pads getting DISTRACTED and sometimes NOTV EVEN LOOKING at his client and the client getting hurt cause he couldn't do the last chest Press.

So my point here is "FOUCUS"...have a little "commitment" and prepare your mind to mentally accept that you CAN’T EXERCISE correct if you are texting, chatting or having a trainer not 100% focus in you. “Texting and Driving” can cause and accident as well as  “working out and being distract” or your trainer LOOKING AT HIS  I-Pad when you are about to passed out.

So to recall so far all the information I had shared with you since the beginning of the year and help you if you can't have a Trainer is giving you the tools to Create and Plan your Scheduling Work Out Routines .In January 2013 "The Cardiovascular machines" so you can do your CARDIO and the time you need to spent to burn fat with out having a hart attack,February I give you "Scheduling your Training days" so you can organize your “Muscle Parts” to workout during the week and this last 3 Chapters of "The Pilates Reformer" as part of the main root of how to prepare your body to have a Strong Core or "Power House" and the importance of the “Flexibility” to avoid soreness.

Now to resume this the 3 chapters of "The Pilates Reformer" my dear readers is not just doing the "Pilates Class" or using the"Reformer", is Learning and Listening to your Body an AWAKE  to a discipline to help you Mentally and physically give Focus and AWARENESS  to apply into your workouts, in your life and in your general well being.

So when yo go to do your Work Out Routine,Pilates or other Style of exercise THINK in the Pilates principals that I will mention again with an image of more extraordinary Reformer exercises so you have a guide to do a Great Workout!!.

1.- Concentration.
Stop talking or texting and concentrate in the exercise or machine you will use in your exercise routine. Splits/Abs/Hamstrings Reformer.Image #1.

2.- Control.
Concentrate and control your movements to stimulate the muscle you decide to Work Out.Lats/abs in the Reformer.Image #2.

3.- Centering.
In all times during your Performance or Exercises your ABS or “Power House” has to be engaged to Center or Balance you, either you are Lifting weights or doing Pilates. Gluts/Abs and Lower back strength in the Reformer/Trampoline. image #3.

4.- Flow or efficiency of movement.
Thanks to your core strength your movements will have a better transition and flow.Gluts/Quads/Hamstrings/Abs in the Reformer. Image #4.

5.-Precision.
Do your movements precise and clean technique.Stand tall and shoulders back chest out.

6.- Breathing.
Proper full inhalation and complete exhalation. In Pilates you breath out in the effort and breath in on the return. In weights you inhale in the preparation and you Exhale as you do the push or the pull.Quads/Abs/Gluts in the Reformer. Image #5.

Imagen# 2.

3 -. Centrarse.

APRIL ARTICLE 2013

"The Pilates Reformer2013" the machine to strength your Core, increased Flexibility, correct posture and alignment in your all body Part 2.

Hello my dear readers as I mentioned in the first part of this article it has been 28 years that I had seen new trends, styles and sometimes very awkward and unsafe TYPES of EXERCISE that had come along that I had to tried because my Profession is learning what really works in your body and if I had to judge these trends I had to give them a try.

PX-90, Boot Camp,Cycling, Martial Arts,Turbo Kick Boxing,Zumba, Pilates with many Apparatus and the latest hot thing "Cross fit" that it's hot but in my opinion the most UNSAFE activity along with the "PX-90" all because normal unfit people or even Fit instructors or Fit people who DOESN'T  know about "Core stabilization,Breathing Aliment,Posture, Stretching and Flow in the movement of the Body" do these and later on they get INJURED doing  this crazy ROUTINES that “yes will make you sweat” and feel pain but the "SIDE EFFECTS" are really bad in the long run.My personal opinion and Experience after doing most of these styles I mentioned before "PILATES" is what you should Learn as an Instructor,Personal trainer or Exercise Practitioner to prepare your body to any regular “Style of Exercise" you choose. I still see so many Trainers and people doing PX90 and Cross Fit with Bad Posture, No Core Strength and they think they are doing a benefit to their bodies...NOT!!!.Anyways since I had been injured 16 years ago from my back my BODY is more AWARE and SENSITIVE of bad exercises, speed or high impact. For now I will just talk about the “Reformer” and how amazing works in all the things that your body needs to have a strong "Power House" your core, alignment, posture and control of your mind and body.I will have lots to talk in other issue about How bad are some "Styles of Exercises for your body " now days.

So the "Reformer" offers all the famous benefits of Pilates including overall strength, flexibility, coordination, and balance. These things in turn lead to daily life improvements like better posture, graceful, efficient movement, and for many, relief from PAIN associated with physical imbalances such as Back Pain. When we talk about strength building and Pilates the Pilates powerhouse muscles, the muscles of the core, are paramount. Flat abs, strong backs, toned buttock and thighs are all results of this emphasis. The Reformer is large enough to accommodate full-range motion which is wonderful for increasing flexibility while building Strength. It seems to invite the length we want to create in the body. And it trains the body to sustain that length. Pushing and pulling with legs or arms against the resistance of the springs, carriage, and body weight is generally strength building. The exercises provide enough resistance and movement variety to help build strong bones. And there is a special feature: eccentric muscle contractions. This is when a muscle lengthens as it resists a force. The reformer is a set-up for eccentric contraction. That is one of the keys to achieving the long, strong muscles without bulk that Pilates is known for.You will develop a Ballet Dancer Physique with long and tone muscles and huge gluts and strong legs.

When you practice Pilates you CAN’T  be TALKING,using you I-PHONE or NOT PUTTING ATTENTION at what your Instructor or your BODY is telling you.
If you have a Trainer who doesn’t guide you during your exercises and is just counting or looking at his phone dont' waist your TIME or MONEY the Trainer is "Unprofesional" and you are one more of the Million people that NEVER listen or LEARN of an Exercise or Sport and of course you will get hurt.

Pilates Principals.
1.- Concentration.
You have to concentrate on what you're doing all the time. And you must concentrate on your entire body for smooth movements.

2.- Control.
The reason you need to concentrate so thoroughly is so you can be in control of every aspect of every moment.

3.- Centering.
In order for the person to attain control of their body they must have a starting place: the center. The center is the focal point of the Pilates Method. Many Pilates teachers refer to the group of muscles in the center of the body encompassing the abdomen, lower and upper back, hips, buttocks, and inner thighs—as the "powerhouse". All movement in Pilates should begin from the powerhouse and flow outward to the limbs.

4.- Flow or efficiency of movement.
Pilates aims for elegant sufficiency of movement, creating flow through the use of appropriate transitions.Pilates is flowing movement outward from a strong core.

5.-Precision.
The focus is on doing one precise and perfect movement, rather than many halfhearted ones.

6.- Breathing
Proper full inhalation and complete exhalation. In Pilates exercises, the practitioner breathes out with the effort and in on the return. In order to keep the lower abdominals close to the spine; the breathing needs to be directed laterally, into the lower rib cage. Pilates breathing is described as a posterior lateral breathing, meaning that the practitioner is instructed to breathe deep into the back and sides of his or her rib cage.

Here are 5 Basic Pilates Reformer exercises in a different angle and what muscles are working  and more datail next issue.
